”F**k Cancer” works with two fundamental concepts – The 3 big ones and The 4 small ones. The 3 big ones are:
Life’s spectrum
“F**k Cancer” divides Life’s spectrum into three phases: before, during and after cancer. Some people will remain in the prevention phase throughout their entire life, others will be diagnosed with cancer, and some will emerge cancer-free.
The 3 big ones are invaluable
The 3 big ones, the knife, chemo and radiation, are completely necessary in the treatment of cancer.
But before and after cancer other things matter. During Cal’s chemo the oncologist said: “You are f**king hard to kill”. He meant that Cal had a very strong starting point. When entering chemo, every person has a “bottom level” – that is, how much of the treatment his or her body can tolerate. The oncologist has certain range of chemo-intensity to work within depending on this starting point. Cal was mentally strong and in the best physical shape of his life when he was diagnosed with cancer and that has probably played a huge role in relation to how much of the 3 big ones he could tolerate.
